San Ramon

San Ramon, with a population of about 76,000, is the fourth largest city in Contra Costa County.  Interestingly, San Ramon (which means Saint Raymond) was not named after a saint, but a man who tended sheep in the early mission days.  The “San” was added, per Spanish custom.  San Ramon is home to the headquarters of Chevron Corporation, 24 Hour Fitness, the West Coast headquarters of AT&T, the Global Software Center of General Electric, as well as the San Ramon Medical Center, many of which are located in the Bishop Ranch Business Park.

Major annual events include the Art and Wind Festival on Memorial Day weekend and the Run for Education in October. San Ramon has many parks and trails, its own school district and a new (as of 2018) downtown with shops, restaurants, and a multi-screen movie theater.
