Antioch, with a population of about 112,000, is the second largest city in Contra Costa County, and sits right on the San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta. Antioch is one of the oldest towns in California.  It was an early shipping point, serving the ranch lands.  In the mid-1800s coal was discovered.  Other small communities and a train line was built around the coal industry.  Antioch was incorporated in 1872. Today, Antioch is a bedroom community of the Bay Area and is now served by BART.
